SimCity 2000 Installer For Windows 7 - Windows 10 by aldude999 SimCity 2000 Installer For Windows 7 - Windows 10 by aldude999
Update: Archive.org has released the full CD in their CD ROM Software Library so SimCity 2000 can be freely downloaded by anyone. The link is here: archive.org/details/SimCity200… Enjoy!

Still have your copy of SimCity 2000 For Windows? Wish you could play it on your Windows 7 system but can't get the installer to work? Good News! You can now! I've made this semi-simple program in Visual Basic .Net that will install SC2K for you (as long as you have the files.) Just find the SC2K folder on your CD (Find the SC2K folder in WIN95 on the CD above) or if it's on your computer, any folder with the files in it and install! It does everything from registering it to installing shortcuts!

Compatible with:
Windows XP
Windows 7
Windows 8
Windows 8.1
Windows 10 (Win10 appears to have full functionality with all SC2K functions, SCURK included)

Version 2.0.0.2 (7/9/2016):

Download:
aldude999.net/programs/Downloa…

I used my SC2K SE disk to install the game and it works great but the videos dont work becuase it wont detect my disk. Is there any way to fix this? It says the disk should be in drive C but that's my hard disk. My CD drive is E. Great work on the installer though! I just wish there was one for SimTower and SimCity Classic.

Go here: www.dll-files.com/smackw32.dll…
And the small text where it says "SMACKW32.DLL, 1 AVAILABLE VERSION" and "Smacker Video Technology" hit the Download >> button there. Unzip the file into your SC2K folder and everything should work.

I don't use mirrors because if I push an update it's easier to do it through my site.

I can't seem to get to the same directory as you. On Windows 10, I have the cd's files and your link downloaded on the c drive. When I try to browse to the folder and click next (after selecting Install Load Game Patch), I get:
This director appears to be incorrect. Be sure to choose the directory with SIMCITY.EXE inside.

Great installer!

But there is one thing that might not really work. My problem is the following: In my memories I thought there would be background music continuously playing. Like when I play and have "music" on in the dropdown menu during gameplay it only plays one song and stops after that. No further background music. Why is that so and how could I change it?

I play on Win 7 with 64 bit.

I'm pretty sure it's just a bug with the windows version of the game. I don't ever remember having the music play continuously.

I cannot save any cities. The app doesn't crash, the cities just don't save. When I go to load a saved city or save a city, no files show in the CITIES directory. I browse to it in explorer and there are sc2 files in the directory.

WIN10 64 bit
Install directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 2000
Installed from SimCity2000_SpecialEdition.iso via the SC2kInstall.exe
I also added the new exe you posted recently and nothing changed.

Update.

I rebooted and I can now see my saved files when loading a saved city so it is saving the cities. But I still cannot see the files in windows explorer or in SC when saving.

I have verified I am looking at the same folder in explorer that I am in SC... it's just weird.

Oh well, no biggie as long as it saves the cities I'm happy!

BTW, awesome work getting this all put together! Thanks!

I have the same problem. It seems the way Windows works, it doesn't actually save them to the folder you want unless it's in your library (Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Etc.). It's a service called VirtualStore and unless your app is running as Administrator, it actually saves them to C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 2000\CITIES if you want access to them in explorer.

I appreciate the effort you've put into this!  However, I feel as if I've followed the instructions as per the 2.0.0.2 version above, and it still crashes on Load/Save.  Please note that even though it says 2.0.0.2 above, the download link points me to 2.0.0.1.  I downloaded, unzipped, ran it, pointed it to my CD-ROM folder, and checked "Install Load Game Patch (Windows 7)".  It tells me "Patch created!", finishes the install, and then exits.  I go to save, and it crashes.  Any thoughts?  I tried running normally and running as administrator.

That's very odd. I've tested this on clean versions of Windows 7 and Windows 10 so far and have had no issues. What OS are you using and have you tried running it a second time with all the same settings to see if it patches it the second time?
Also on the CD, it should be pointed to the folder WIN95->SC2K
Finally, make sure you aren't running the game from the CD, and instead, run it from the start menu/desktop. Running it from the CD can cause it to use the unpatched application.

Thanks for the reply!  Running Windows 7 Home Premium.  I've tried about five times now with the same results.  I've pointed it to WIN95 -> SC2K during the install.  I've tried starting it from the Start Menu, and conversely navigating to C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 2000\SIMCITY.EXE  I see that after running the patch program, the SIMCITY.EXE file is updated to reflect the time I ran the patch, but when I go into the program it still exits on load or save.

That's very odd, well here's a prepatched version of the application, just paste it in your SimCity 2000 folder and everything should work.

Appreciate the work, but for some reason it's not cooperating with my system.  It's telling me the program can't start because smackw32.dll is missing.  I ended up digging up an old laptop that had XP on it still and was able to get it up and running last night.  Now if I could only get Sims to move into my town...

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for the time and effort you've put into this project. It's awesome! Secondly, I'd like to report that I'm having the same issue as ogdevilbunny was a few months ago. I'm running on Windows 10 and I am not able to save/load and when I try the Win 7/8 save/load patch, I get the dialogue box saying "Something went wrong with the patch..."

Thanks again and 73's

Great tool so far! Question: If I load a preloaded city (usually the bigger ones) all the animations play (cars, smokestacks, blinking signs, etc...)  When I start my own new one - nothing. Have you been able to get around the animation problem without resorting to dosbox?  Otherwise, this thing works a treat.
(Win 10 64 system here)

It works great for Windows 10!!!  Note that SimCopter can use SimCity 2000 cities whose tiles have not been modified by the SimCity 2000 Urban Renewal Kit.  That being said, aldude999, do you think you could make a SimCopter installer that installs both the game and its 1.02 patch?

Hello,

I am attempting to install SimtCity 2000 SE from the original disc, using this program you have provided. However, it does not seem to work; I've tried running the program several times and every time I get a message that says "something went wrong with the files...". If I try to include the patch, then I get a message that says "something went wrong with the patch...:(". I have tried changing the install location, not changing anything from the given preset, installing with and without all possible combinations of options...etc. I am selecting E:\SC2KSEPC\WIN95\SC2K as the file with Simcity.exe, which I have confirmed is the file with the .exe file (where "E:\" is my DVD/CD drive).

Can you please help me or offer any possible solutions you think may work? Or is the compatibility with windows 10 not a given? Either way I appreciate both your time and effort.

Can you check if the folder exists on your computer? Since you ran the installer, it should exist, but I'm thinking there may be an issue with the installer creating multiple folders.
Reply
:iconogdevilbunny:
ogdevilbunny Featured By Owner Feb 27, 2016
So I have narrowed down the problem. I found another installation within my Programs folder (under C:\Programs\Maxis\Simcity 2000) and deleted it, as well as the other installation in C:\Games.  I then attempted to install from the CD again (deleting each previous installation this time); the primary files install just fine and the game plays completely. SKURK runs and works correctly. However, I cannot save or load in Simcity 2000 (I can however save and load just fine in SKURK). When I try to install with the Windows 7 Load/Save patch, I get an error that says "something went wrong with the patch...:(". When I try to install without the patch, the installation completes fine but I still do not have save/load functionality in the game. Therefore, the problem seems to be with the Windows 7 load/save patch. I do not know whether this is a compatibility issue with windows 10, a bug of some sort, or a problem that may be fixed/solved from my end. Either way I wanted to report it, in case either you can help me or in the case that the information is useful.

Thanks again!

Oddly, yes it does exist. The last install location I chose was C:\Games\Simcity2000, which is where the folder is exactly. When I run SIMCITY.exe, the game runs fine but a message pops up that the game CD was not found in the drive (even though I actually have the original game disc sitting in my cd-dvd drive. I can play indefinitely, however I cannot save (or load) nor can I run the add-on editor. When I attempt to do so, the game crashes.

There appears to be no other copies or installations of the folder, despite the fact I ran the installer several times and specified different installation paths for several attempts (as I said above, each attempt ended with the same error and message).

If it is an issue with the installer creating multiple folders, how might I solve it? I know enough of computer science and programming to understand what you mean but not enough to understand the problem in full enough detail to begin solving it.

I am extremely appreciative of you taking the time to answer my questions and to help me use your program. Thank you, both now and in advance.
